History and Philosophy Major Stamp was founded in 1972, by Samuel Crouch - a Milwaukee, Wisconsin native and Firefighter - at 18th and Vliet Streets in Milwaukee. Sam worked a 24 hour shift for the Fire Department, then worked at Major Stamp during his two days off, repeating this routine with both jobs for the first five years of Major Stamp's existence. Major Stamp was strictly a stamp company for the first twelve years, then began doing light engraving and other signage, branding and identity work. About 1984 Major Stamp moved to a facility on North Hopkins. In 2001, Major Stamp became Major Stamp & Sign Co., Inc., reflecting the continued diversity of identity products they offered. In September 2005, Major Stamp moved to a new facility at 1969 W. Hampton Avenue. Current Partner Shaun Kamps came on board at 16 years old in 1996. Shaun worked part-time during the school year and closer to full time during Summer and Holidays. While attending University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee full time for a couple of years, Shaun continued working at Major Stamp full-time, as well as Milwaukee County Parks System close to full time on third shift down at the docks. In 2003 Shaun took advantage of an offer from the founder to transition the ownership of the company through a five-year partnership. Shaun handles sales, service, design, personnel, and is 'hands-on' getting jobs done with the rest of the crew. Shaun's feeling for the purpose of the company is to offer products at a competitive price and get them to customers faster than anyone else. "Our niche is our service. We often start with one small job - on a deadline that we meet - that opens the door to our servicing a wide range of needs across the company. I like the idea of taking over Major Stamp because the Company is a well-established, well-known name in Milwaukee and I have the opportunity to take it to the next level." |
